Animation Production Art: The Middle

Image
The concept for this animation began as sketches in 2006. In 2012, the project is getting fully rendered. I am preparing a Demo for my dA comic artists' group #IndieGraphicNovels and this is the final product of the web comic/animation production. The effort went fairly quickly due to the incredible amount of professional hours I've spent as an Illustrator on projects that make "money". Have you heard of it? Kinda hard to picture the narrative with just an image sequence? Maybe you should take a look at this Box.net file . The same file, seen below, is a story board panel/pencil page from a long scene in The Man's colossal corporate job. His building is a sprawling, over-crowded rat maze. One of many existential cross roads he finds himself inside of. The pencils for the main scenes are re-scanned as whole pages. Now, I'm digitally inking them. This story looks like it will be included in a larger book project and self-published printed as part of

The Man Who Bled Roses

Image
A web comic and animation about the strange curses of the city. The Man Who Bled Roses is an independent animated film that was, regrettably, totally destroyed in a fire a few years ago in 2006. The original film has been lost but not forgotten. Today, I'm in the in the very early stages of re-assembling the entire project. Currently, I'm in a second pre-production phase as I re-draw several scenes and re-digitize them. The story follows a grown-up version of Charlie Brown as he bumbles around working in Corporate America and falling in love with a beautiful young woman. This woman has absolutely no interest in him unaware of his affection. After visiting a strange flower store in a lame attempt to impress his love, The Man inexplicably begins to sprout roses, thorns and vines from his skin pores. When I get some more of this film re-constructed I'll post some images and clips. Copy code to add Puppets to your site: Copy code to add Roaches to your site:

Some re-constructed production art of the main character. The Man Who Bled Roses character is a real square - a nebbish nerd who falls for a pretty young muchacha. The character has always reminded me of Pugsly Addams or Charlie Brown if Mr. Tim Burton imagined them. The script is also getting a much needed re-tooling - I am adding some interesting bits to really emphasis the plant's explosive growth cycle. Some re-constructed production art of more characters. These zombie characters are exaggerated versions of the Man's co-workers who appear to him as nightmarish caricatures - evil-minded zombies that block him from the Pretty Woman he has become infatuated with. She was so close, but just out of reach.

The love interest, The Very Pretty Woman is a bit off-put by our hero. The Pretty Woman character is another sensitive person, like The Man, who is lost in a dimly lit maze of angry, confused people. If the poor dweeb just got it together enough they would really get along! Unfortunately for The Man, he doesn't ever have it quite together enough.
